AI in 2025: Let's talk about it!

AI, anyone? Just thought I’d write something on it , because clearly, we haven’t heard nearly enough about it yet, right? It’s 2025 and while some are all-in on AI, dreaming of a future with robots doing their laundry, others remain sceptical. They view it as a flashy trend bound to fizzle out. But here’s the thing: AI is already everywhere. You can’t escape it. From your emails and search results to your social feeds and shopping habits, AI is embedded in our daily lives.

So why the hype? What’s the big deal? Why are businesses, marketers, and just about everyone so obsessed with it?

The Rise (and Rise) of AI

In 2024, AI didn’t just have a moment, it dominated the scene. Close to a third of global venture funding went to AI-related companies. Funding hit a whopping $100 billion, up 80% from $55.6 billion in 2023 (Source: Crunchbase News).

And yet, while the tech world toasted to AI’s success, the rest of us were left wondering, “Okay, but what does this mean for me? Is AI just ChatGPT answering emails, or is there more to it?” Spoiler alert: there’s much more.

What is AI, Anyway?

Let’s break it down. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is all about teaching machines to think and act like humans, or better yet, to do things humans might not want to do (like cleaning floors or sifting through spreadsheets). AI works across five key areas:

  1. Robotics: Machines that are AI-powered move, act, or work in a physical space. Think robots assembling cars or your Roomba cleaning up after your snack binge.

  2. Knowledge and Reasoning: AI that plans your weekend, solves puzzles, or suggests your next Netflix obsession.

  3. Computer Vision: AI that “sees” and understands visuals, like your phone recognising your face even after a bad hair day.

  4. Natural Language Processing (NLP): AI that “speaks human,” whether it’s Siri cracking a joke or chatbots handling customer service.

  5. Machine Learning (ML): AI that learns from experience. It’s why Google Maps keeps getting smarter about traffic and why your email filters out spam like a champ.

These areas often overlap and applications are not set to one area . And that leads us to the real question: What can AI actually do for you?

In my next post, I'll dive into how AI goes beyond the buzz, transforming operations, boosting efficiency, and driving smarter decision-making.
